Summary, etc.	la tercera edición de un libro de texto de Bioquímica que ha sido bien recibido parecería un trabajo sencillo. Ciertamente, son necesarias las mejoras: las sugeridas por los que utilizan el texto, así como los cambios esenciales identificados por los autores. A pesar del mayor cuidado han aparecido los molestos errores inevitables que deben corregirse. Pero seguramente, si el texto ha funcionado bien, la tarea principal debe ser actualizarlo. Así pensábamos hasta que comenzamos a contemplar la expansión explosiva del conocimiento bioquímico que se ha producido en los pocos años transcurridos desde la aparición de la segunda edición de Bioquímica. ¿Cómo puede disponerse esta información nueva sin dar lugar a un libro de texto con una información tan densa que no puedan utilizado los estudiantes, la mayoría de los cuales estudian el primer año de bioquímica? Estaba claro que se requería un enfoque cualitativamente diferente. Sin duda, este enfoque debe utilizar la potencia del ordenador para acceder y organizar la enorme información sobre genómica, proteínica, secuencias génicas y estructuras proteicas presentes en las bases de datos de expansión continua
