Summary, etc.	La economía no funciona en un vacío, sino en una realidad concreta con características institucionales, políticas, sociales, etc. Los resultados económicos deben servir para mejorar la calidad de vida de los habitantes, pues son un medio y no un fin. ¿Qué hemos visto en el Perú entre 1995 y 2012? Turbulencia económica y política entre 1995 y 2000, y un ciclo de crecimiento entre 2002 y 2012. La disciplina en el manejo macroeconómico interno y una coyuntura externa favorable, caracterizada por altos precios de las materias primas, fueron suficientes para un avance de la economía, aunque no de lo social ni del entorno político interno. ¿Las causas? En lo social, la falta de reformas en sectores que conecten lo económico con lo social, como educación, salud, infraestructura rural, etc. En lo político, la baja credibilidad de las instituciones. A lo largo del período 1995-2012 se mantuvo la estrategia económica basada en el libre mercado y la apertura hacia el exterior, pero sin un Estado que funcione de manera adecuada. El objetivo del libro es el análisis de la economía peruana entre 1995 y 2012 desde una perspectiva amplia, incluyendo el desempeño político, social, institucional y externo.
