Summary, etc.	El programa de las naciones unidas para el desarrollo contempla, entre las múltiples áreas conque apoya el desarrollo nacional, la referida a las actividades de investigación y sus aplicaciones concretas. En este amplio espectro, el tema de la información social y económica para el desarrollo regional y local, destaca por sus urgencias e importancia.<br/>En efecto, los gobiernos de las regiones y municipios, asi como las organizaciones de la sociedad civil, tienen limitaciones para acceder a información actualizada y oportuna para formular sus propuestas de desarrollo. Sin conocer la realidad, es muy difícil modificarla por las mejores vías. Por tal motivo, el PNUD se propuso, a través de la Unidad del Informe sobre Desarrollo Humano, diseñar un conjunto de instrumentos metodológicos que permitan sistematizar información económica, social, institucional, ambiental y productiva de manera rápida, eficiente y económica.
