Summary, etc.	El presente manual pretende describir y justificar el fenómeno de la corrosión y degradación de materiales desde una perspectiva equilibrada entre los aspectos científicos y tecnológicos. Presta especial relevancia a la influencia de las características microestructurales del material en su comportamiento frente al medio que le rodea, sin olvidar los aspectos electroquímicos básicos que permiten justificar muchos de los mecanismos expuestos. Por otra parte, se ha tratado de adaptar el texto a programas de las diferentes titulaciones universitarias que contemplan asignaturas relacionadas con este tema, tras la reforma de los planes de estudio. Así resultará más útil a los alumnos de Facultades de Ciencias y Escuelas de Ingeniería y, en general, para toda la comunidad científica de habla hispana.
